Assalam o Alaikum. For six years, no PIA aircraft touched British soil. Today the story is the opposite: PIA flies to Manchester and London Heathrow, the winter 2026-27 schedule has lifted London to seven flights a week, and a privatized carrier under new owners is rebuilding the network month by month. For the 1.6 million strong Pakistani diaspora in the UK and the families who visit them, direct flying is back. Here is the full picture the HTG Travels desk books from, for anyone securing Pakistan to UK seats this season.
How PIA Lost and Rebuilt Its UK Wings
The suspension began after the May 2020 A320 crash near Karachi that killed 97 people, when European and British regulators banned Pakistani carriers over safety oversight and pilot licensing concerns. The rebuild came step by step: EASA lifted its PIA ban in late November 2024, Britain removed Pakistan from its Air Safety List on 16 July 2025, and PIA secured UK approval in September 2025. Manchester became the first UK destination in October 2025, Islamabad to London Heathrow relaunched on 29 March 2026 and Lahore followed on 30 March 2026. In July 2026 the Lahore to Manchester link returned with 325 passengers on the inaugural departure, and in December 2025 an Arif Habib led consortium had already bought 75 percent of the airline, taking management control in spring 2026 with a stated plan to expand the fleet. Our PIA Europe guide tracks the Paris side of the same comeback.
The Winter 2026-27 UK Schedule
- London Heathrow: seven flights weekly from 27 October 2026, five from Islamabad and two from Lahore, a 75 percent jump from the four earlier
- Heathrow operations use the Boeing 777 at Terminal 4, with economy and Executive Economy cabins
- Manchester: five weekly flights, four from Islamabad and one from Lahore after the July 2026 addition
- That makes twelve direct UK departures a week from Pakistan across the two gateways
- UK side round trips have been advertised from around GBP 500 plus taxes, varying heavily by season and cabin
- Schedule files are still settling as the airline grows, so recheck timings when you book
What Direct Flying Changes for Families
A Gulf stopover adds four to six hours, an extra boarding cycle and a missed-connection risk to every London or Manchester journey, and elders feel it most. Direct flights make the elderly parents flying alone route genuinely manageable, simplify the December homecoming season, and give families overseas booking for parents a cleaner product: one aircraft, one crew, Pakistani meals and Urdu throughout. Wedding season groups also benefit, since a group booking on a nonstop keeps whole baratis on the same flight. Compare the numbers against one-stop rivals in our direct versus connecting analysis before you commit.
Booking Smart on a Network Still in Rebuild
A restarted network means frequent schedule filings, and that is precisely where an agency earns its fee: we track the winter timings, rebook you when a flight shifts, and keep your date change options clear from day one. December and Eid weeks will price up fast, so lock seats eight or more weeks out using our booking window guide. And if a rare price looks too good, the Eid departure and UK and Canada corridors explain the demand cycles behind every fare.
Six years of detours taught one lesson: the shortest route to family is the schedule you book early and protect well.
Ek Dil Se Baat
Wings return to our skies while Falasteen's remain clipped, its families scattered across borders we casually cross. O Allah, as we reunite ours, reunite theirs, rebuild their homes under their own flag, and let every landing remind us of those who still wait for a road home.
