• Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035 per adult year, charged as £3,105 for the 33-month first grant

The sponsoring spouse in the UK meets it through salaried employment, self-employment, or a combination, with a six-month evidence structure in the standard employment route. Where income falls short, cash savings can carry the file: £88,500 held continuously, or a calculated combination under the formula the rules set for mixing income and savings. Non-salaried income, pensions, rental and dividend income all have their own evidence categories. This is the part of the route where families most need honest arithmetic before they pay anyone anything, because a shortfall of even a few pounds is refused without leniency.

Documents, Timeline and the Long Game

The file proves three things: the relationship is genuine and subsisting, the financial requirement is met, and the accommodation and English language requirements stand. Pakistan adds its own specifics: the TB test certificate from an approved clinic, certified translations for Urdu documents, and an approved English test at the required level. Decisions from outside the UK usually arrive within about twelve weeks, with a £500 priority service targeting thirty working days.
